ABOUT

Zara Kahan is a filmmaker and mixed-media artist from Borneo, Malaysia. Her work in mixed media interrogates new shapes of indigenous storytelling by combining the possibilities of digital editing, animation, and 16-millimeter film. Her design ethos turns indigenous pattern-making into a method of archiving and transforming personal identity into the visual language of patterns.

She received a production grant from the Saul Zaentz Innovation Filmmaking Fund for her second feature film, that will begin shooting in August 2023.
